The company

Hukka Design manufactures and markets wellness, sauna, cooking and gift products made from Karelian soapstone, a natural stone that is more than 2.8 billion years old. Our factory is located in Tuupovaara, Northeast Finland. We have been developing our business for more than 40 years and have become a leading manufacturer in our industry. We are known to our customers for innovative products, good quality and reliability.

Our story

When our ancestors settled in the area that is now known as Finland, they first began to use Karelian soapstone for fireplaces, cooking utensils and religious objects. However, with the Industrial Revolution, stone was forgotten when pans and pots began to be made of iron and other materials. However, Karelian soapstone was
not completely forgotten – it was just waiting for a visionary person who had atouch of the spirit of Stone Age man to see its potential. Jokke Ahti, who originally worked as a salesman, arrived in northeastern Finland and decided that there was still magic in stone. This is how Hukka Design was born, and from this humble beginnings more than 40 years ago, it has developed into theworld's leading manufacturer of soapstone products.

Soapstone is a mystical material which
does not bend easily to the craftsman’s
will. Since we aim to respect its unique
nature, many of our product ideas and
their visual appearance are inspired by
nature. Those responsible for the
design and manufacture of our
products can often be found spending
time in the forests and lakes of North Carelia.

Production

From humble beginnings in a small log cabin in Hoilola,right next to the Russian border,we have grown into a modern manufacturing anddesign company that utilizes the latest technology.We manufacture approximately 250,000 products annually.Since theproduction of small soapstone products is highly specialized,we have developed(and in some cases even manufactured)our production technology ourselves. Machines are important, of course, but the biggest"secret"of our success is the people who work here.Almost all of them have more than 20 years of experience in the field. They are true"oldschool"professionals who are proud of their skill and even more proud of the quality of each Hukka product.We always keep our promises!
