Unique material

Soapstone has a mystical ability to withstand the stresses of the Arctic environment. It can withstand both the heat of fire and the freezing cold. It can utilize their power more effectively than other natural stones, storing heat or cold uniquely effectively due to its density. Most HUKKA products are based on these properties.

The stone is therefore very dense and does not emit odors or flavors. Therefore, it has been tested and approved for food use.

Design

Many of the people behind the ideas behind our products enjoy spending time in the forests, hiking, hunting, fishing and enjoying the untouched and beautiful nature of the lake region of Northeastern Finland in many ways. Most of the new design ideas come from nature. “We don’t need a big city with all its people, traffic, lights and noise to get inspired.”

Soapstone, with a history spanning over two billion years, is a magical and majestic material. “You can’t force stone, you have to see its spirit and respect it,” they say. “Green forests, blue lakes and the mythical silence of nature, as well as the occasional howl of a wolf (‘hukka’ is Finnish for wolf) are our sources of inspiration.”

Production

From humble beginnings in a small log cabin in Hoilola,right next to the Russian border,we have grown into a modern manufacturing anddesign company that utilizes the latest technology.We manufacture approximately 250,000 products annually.Since theproduction of small soapstone products is highly specialized,we have developed(and in some cases even manufactured)our production technology ourselves. Machines are important, of course, but the biggest"secret"of our success is the people who work here.Almost all of them have more than 20 years of experience in the field. They are true"oldschool"professionals who are proud of their skill and even more proud of the quality of each Hukka product.We always keep our promises!
