Hukka Design manufactures and markets wellness, sauna, cooking and gift products made of Carelian soapstone, over 2.8 billion years old natural stone. Our factory is located in Tuupovaara, north-eastern Finland. We have been developing our business for over 30 years and have become leading manufacturer in our field. We are well known among our customers for innovative products, good quality and reliability.

As our ancestors moved to what now is known as Finland they started using Carelian soapstone first for fireplaces, cooking utensils and religious items. Once the industrial revolution came they forgot the magical stone as they got their pots and pans made of iron and other materials.
But Carelian soapstone was not completely forgotten, it only needed a visionary person with a little bit of stoneage caveman in him to see the potential of the stone. Jokke Ahti, who originally was a salesman, came to north-eastern Finland and decided, that there is still some magic in this stone. Hukka Design was created and from this humble start over 30 years ago has developed world leading soapstone small items manufacturer.

As our ancestors moved to what now is known as Finland they started using soapstone first for fireplaces, cooking utensils and religious items. Once the industrial revolution came they forgot the magical stone as they got their pots and pans made of iron and other materials.
But soapstone was not completely forgotten, it only needed a visionary person with a little bit of stoneage caveman in him to see the potential of the stone. Jokke Ahti, who originally was a salesman, came to north-eastern Finland and decided, that there is still some magic in this stone. Hukka Design was created and from this humble start over 30 years ago has developed world leading soapstone small items manufacturer.
Design
People behind many of the product ideas like to wander around in the woods, hunt and fish and enjoy in many ways the unspoiled, beautiful nature of north-eastern Finland lake area. From the nature they also get most of the ideas for new designs. “We do not need big city with all of it´s people, traffic, lights and noises for our designs.
Soapstone, with it´s more than 2 billion years of history is magical and majestetic material. You can not force it with hurry, you have to see the spirit in stone and respect it”, they say. “Green forests, blue lakes and mythical silence of the nature, occasional howl of the wolf (‘hukka’ is a Finnish word for wolf) are the source of our inspiration”.

From the humble start in a small log cabin in Hoilola, very close to Russian border, we have grown to a modern manufacturing and design company, utilizing latest technology. We produce around 250 000 items annually. As soapstone small items production is such highly specialized business we have been developing (and in some cases even manufacturing) our production technology by ourselves.
The machines are of course important, but the biggest “secret” behind our success are the people working here. Almost everybody has over 20 years of experience in this field. They are all real “old school” professionals, proud of their capabilities and even more proud of the quality of every Hukka product. We always live up to our promises!
